Change is good when it comes to marketing!

If you’re doing marketing properly, on a regular basis you will monitor, measure and make decisions based on the activities you have done. After all, there is no point continuing to undertake a particular campaign if it’s simply not working. The same is true about pumping additional resources into areas where you have experienced some positive outcomes. Continue reading

How are you perceived?

As a business owner, how you are perceived by your customers, prospective customers, business contacts and colleagues can be important to your success.  But let’s face it; it’s not easy to understand how other people perceive us or indeed simple to change the minds of people who have already effectively judged us.

Sometimes we may be completely unaware of the attributes, qualities and behaviours traits that we are projecting. For example, I am known for not suffering fools gladly, but does this come across as the strength I see it as or are people potentially thinking that I am intolerant? Continue reading

Money, Money, Money – why it’s not funny!

Richard Branson said “Never go into business purely to make money. If that’s the motive, you’re better off doing nothing.”

In recent months I have come across a number of fellow business owners who are so obsessed with where their next pound is coming from, that they will do anything, including trampling over personal feelings and ignoring basic business etiquette to get it.

What’s your motivation?

Most successful entrepreneurs say that their primary motivation has been to build something lasting, not to make a lot of money. And I would agree, my motivation to set up, build and develop my social media business comes from the enjoyment I get from the work that I do, combined with the thanks and respect from my clients because of the great results that I can help them to achieve. Networking, a place to meet like minded people, build relationships and trust, make lasting friendships and ultimately get some business.

But wait, is this always the case?  Well frankly no.

Now don’t get me wrong there are some wonderful people who go networking and I have made some great friendships with people but there is always the oddball, come on admit it you’ve met one if you are honest.

Some people just don’t get networking, they go once and say it’s not for them, they didn’t get any business from it or they felt uncomfortable.  But with everything in life you have to give it time, talk to people about anything and everything, except your business. That can come later.  Smiling

How does your business card shape up?

business cardNo self respecting business owner would be without a business card would they?  No of course they wouldn’t.  They are your shop window to all your services and products, provide your phone number, website address and other relevant information.

However, one of the things that always seem to be missing are your social media channels. The whole world and his dog are on social media nowadays, (yes dogs do have twitter accounts), so why wouldn’t you tell people you are too?

Is it enough to just have the symbol on the card? Yes if your twitter handle is the same as your business name, if not put the name of your account on.  Don’t leave it to chance that they may visit your website and find out from there.  Chances are they probably wont. Continue reading

It’s not just a numbers game

Do you get excited every time you get a new follower or like? Are you monitoring the increase in likes on your FB page? It gets a bit addictive doesn’t it?

But, there’s always one of those isn’t there? Are you checking your notifications as this is what really counts? How much interaction are you getting? Are you talking to people and are they responding?

Without interaction and engagement what have you got? I’ll tell you, you have an advertising board and nothing more Continue reading
